A trading VPS (Virtual Private Server) is a dedicated cloud server that runs your trading software 24/7, regardless of what your home PC or internet connection is doing. You need one if you run automated strategies, trade pre-market or overnight sessions, participate in prop firm challenges, or simply cannot afford a missed fill due to a dropped connection. Unlike a home computer, a trading VPS never sleeps, never restarts for Windows updates mid-session, and maintains a stable, low-latency connection to exchange matching engines.
Most VPS plans are provisioned within 5β15 minutes of payment clearing. You will receive RDP (Remote Desktop) credentials by email. From there, connecting to your server and installing your trading platform typically takes another 10β20 minutes. For NinjaTrader 8 in particular, our servers come with common dependencies pre-installed so you can be trading within 30 minutes of placing your order.
All plans ship with Windows Server 2022 Datacenter edition by default β the standard environment for trading platforms like NinjaTrader 8, MetaTrader 4/5, Sierra Chart, Quantower, and TradeStation. Linux (Ubuntu 22.04) is available on request for algo traders running Python-based strategies. OS reinstalls are available at any time from your client portal.
Yes. You have full administrator access to your server. You can install any software you own a license for, configure firewall rules, set up task scheduling, and customize the environment exactly as you would a local Windows machine. There are no restrictions on trading software, brokers, or data feed providers.
Our primary NY4 servers achieve round-trip latency to CME Globex of under 1 millisecond for order acknowledgement. The actual figure depends on the specific server tier and network conditions, but sub-1ms is the consistent baseline we engineer for. This compares to 30β80ms+ typical of a residential internet connection from anywhere in the US.
Equinix NY4 is a datacenter in Secaucus, NJ that houses the co-location infrastructure for CME Group, NYSE, NASDAQ, ICE, and CBOE β the five largest US financial exchanges. When your trading server is physically located inside NY4, your order packets travel the shortest possible distance to reach the matching engines. This is not a marketing claim: these exchanges publish their official co-location addresses, and NY4 is on those lists. There is no practical way to get lower latency without paying institutional co-location rates directly to the exchange.
Our servers run AMD EPYC processors (latest generation), DDR4 ECC registered memory, and enterprise-grade NVMe SSD storage. Network interfaces are 10Gbps Intel NICs. We do not use consumer-grade hardware in our production fleet. Our bare-metal infrastructure is ISO 27001 and ISO 9001 certified, housed in Equinix Tier 3+ facilities.
No. Our VPS plans are allocated from dedicated bare-metal nodes with guaranteed CPU, RAM, and disk resources. We maintain strict oversubscription limits that keep your server's allocated resources available at all times. If you purchase a 4-core, 8GB RAM plan, those resources are reserved for you and not shared with other tenants in a way that would degrade your performance.
Yes. NinjaTrader 8 is fully supported and one of the most common platforms run on our infrastructure. Our Windows Server 2022 environment includes the .NET and Visual C++ runtime dependencies NT8 requires. You simply RDP in, download NT8 from ninjatrader.com, install it, connect to your broker (Rithmic, CQG, Kinetick, or NinjaTrader Brokerage), and your strategies run 24/7. We have a dedicated setup guide in our blog to walk you through the process.
Yes. Both MT4 and MT5 run without issue on our Windows Server environment. You install the terminal provided by your broker (IC Markets, Pepperstone, FOREX.com, etc.), log in, and your Expert Advisors run continuously on the server. MT4/MT5 on a VPS eliminates the problem of EAs stopping when your home PC goes to sleep or your internet drops mid-session.
Yes. You can install Python (Anaconda, Miniconda, or standard CPython), Jupyter, any libraries you need (pandas, numpy, ib_insync for Interactive Brokers, ccxt for crypto, etc.), and run scheduled tasks or always-on scripts. For Linux-based Python workflows, we offer Ubuntu 22.04 as an alternative OS. Windows users can also use WSL2 for a Linux environment alongside their Windows trading platforms.
Our servers are compatible with all major prop firm platforms: Apex Trader Funding, Topstep, FTMO, MyFundedFutures, Earn2Trade, and others. These firms route orders through standard brokers and data feeds (Rithmic, CQG, NinjaTrader Brokerage), all of which work on our infrastructure. Our NY4 location is particularly beneficial for futures prop firm challengers β faster fills and reduced slippage directly improve your challenge performance.
No. All plans are month-to-month by default. You can cancel at any time from your client portal and your server will remain active through the end of your current billing period. There are no cancellation fees, early termination fees, or lock-in periods. We also offer discounted 3-month and 6-month prepay options if you want to save on the monthly rate.
Yes. You can upgrade your plan (more CPU cores, RAM, or storage) at any time from your portal. Upgrades typically take effect within a few minutes and are prorated for the remaining billing period. Downgrades are processed at the next renewal date.
We accept all major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover) through our Stripe-powered billing system. Invoices are issued automatically on each renewal date. You can update your payment method, download invoices, or manage your subscription entirely from the client portal.
We offer a 48-hour money-back guarantee on first-time orders if the service does not meet your needs. After 48 hours, billing periods are non-refundable since server resources are reserved exclusively for your account. If you experience downtime that violates our 99.97% uptime SLA, we will issue service credits per our SLA terms β see our SLA page for details.
Support is available via live chat on our website, the client portal ticketing system, and email. Live chat is staffed during US business hours (9amβ6pm ET). Tickets are monitored 24/7 for critical infrastructure issues. Our support team understands trading platforms β we can help with NinjaTrader configuration, Rithmic connection issues, MT4 EA setup, and platform-specific troubleshooting, not just generic server questions.
Yes. Our infrastructure team monitors all servers, network links, and datacenter systems around the clock. Automated alerting detects hardware anomalies, network degradation, and power events in real time. Critical incidents trigger immediate response protocols regardless of time of day.
In the unlikely event of an unplanned outage, our team is automatically alerted and begins remediation immediately. You can also open a priority support ticket from your portal for immediate escalation. If the downtime constitutes an SLA violation (total monthly downtime exceeding our 99.97% threshold), you are entitled to service credits per our SLA agreement. For planned maintenance, we provide at least 72 hours advance notice by email.
Our team understands trading β we can help with platform setup, latency questions, and anything in between.
